After moving to Missoula, her husband was diagnosed with schitzophrenia. The ensuing years were filled with stress and mayhem, as Rodney struggled with psychotic episodes. It's unclear if The Couple Embracing is the end result, a sort of happily ever after, or if it represents Marge and Rodney's marriage before his illness set in.
